On Saturday, July 12th, we will be holding our sixth House & Garden Tour. This year all the sites will be located within the Municipality of Morin Heights and will feature at least three locations of very interesting historical significance. Also, this slightly shorter road trip will prove less costly for drivers given the high gasoline prices we are experiencing. Tickets are limited and will be available, as of June 14th, from Mickey’s Store or by calling (450) 226-2618. All tickets are by pre-sale only as we must have the numbers of participants for our caterer well ahead of time. Cost will be $25.00 per person and include a box lunch, map and descriptive brochure. On the day, participants should meet at the Community Room of the Morin Heights Town Hall, 567 Village at 10 a.m. to distribute the lunches and maps. We are also looking for on-site volunteers from the Association. If you would like to do this, please contact Sandra. On Sunday, August 3rd, we will be holding an Open House at the Morin Heights Library, starting at 1 p.m.. Please see the attached information about this event. Also on Sunday, August 3rd, Trinity Anglican Church will be having a Memorial Sunday with an outdoor service to be followed by music and a BBQ lunch. This event starts at 11 a.m. and provides an opportunity for people to visit the historic cemetery to decorate the graves of loved ones and ancestors. There will also be a display from the Morin Heights Historical Association that illustrates the almost 150 years of Trinity. Everyone is welcome to attend. For information contact Dorothy Garayt, Peoples’ Warden (450) 226-3845 or David Potter, Assistant Peoples’ Warden (450) 224-7501. This is also time to renew your membership, still only $10.00 per person, in the Association. Renewal forms are attached. Please try to do this before July 30th as we appreciate your support and contributions. On May 29th, the Morin Heights Historical Association assisted the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network in presenting the conference “These Old Stones” at the Community Hall in Mille Isles. This conference/display/workshop was the result of the QAHN heritage cemetery project that visited about forty cemeteries in the Laurentian area. Over 90 people participated in this conference and we hope that steps can be taken towards the preservation and restoration of the many heritage cemeteries that were presented. We would like to thank the following volunteers who helped so much to make this day a success: Eddy and Marilyn Black, Joy Kirkpatrick, Sylvia Fendle, Judy Coulter and Catherine Pollock from the Morin Heights Historical Association, and Joan Patterson, Max Ryan and Marion Roberts from the Mille Protestant Cemetery Corporation. Marion also catered this event with outstanding refreshments. At our Annual General Meeting in April, we welcomed Susan Chirke as a new director. Our other directors are Gilles Saulnier, Catherine Pollock, Charlie Vaillancourt, Eddy Black (Treasurer), Joy Kirkpatrick (Vice-president and Webmaster) and Sandra Stock (President). Please make an effort to support our summer activities. Thank you. Sandra Stock, President |
